This is a collection I did for a prompt on seriality in my sophomore seminar class, taught by Rebecca Keller. I wanted to play with the dramatic Flemish renaissance portraits that inspire me, while replacing the classical symbols prevalent in such with ones of my own modern DIY aesthetic. The papier-mâché objects I crafted represent nothing in particular on their own, but are supposed to exude a colorful pop-art look combined with an absence of mastery or skill. They are side characters in the portraits, their frankness and naiveté contrasting and therefore drawing attention to my own attempts to appear stately and mysterious.
